Q: Is Magoffin Home a Texas State Park and do you accept the State Park Pass or Parklands Passport?
A: No, effective January 1, 2008, Magoffin Home State Historic Site was transferred to the Texas Historical Commission (THC) from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and is no longer considered a Texas State Park. The State Park Pass and Parklands Passport are statewide passes for parks operated by TPWD. Magoffin Home State Historic Site is managed by the THC. Q: Did Susan Shelby Magoffin live in the Magoffin Home?
A: Susan Shelby Magoffin, the author of Down the Santa Fe Trail Into Mexico, was married to James Wiley Magoffin’s brother Samuel (1801–1888), also a trader. Her diary describes her trip down the Santa Fe Trail in 1846–1847. She never visited Magoffinsville nor the Magoffin Home as neither existed at the time.

Q: How long is a guided tour?
A: Most tours are about 45 minutes to one hour long.

Q: Can I take a tour in Spanish?
A: Yes. We have bilingual docents Wednesday through Sunday.

Q: Can I take a self-guided tour?
A: No. In order to preserve our artifacts and provide the visitor with the best experience, all of our tours are guided.

Q: If we arrive after a tour has begun, will we be allowed to join?
A: That depends on how long after the hour you arrive. We will try our best to accommodate your needs.

Q: Can I bring water with me on the tour?
A: We do not allow food or drinks in the building so we can protect our collections and historic structure from damage.

Q: Are there things to touch during my tour?
A: Yes, we have some things to touch, but most of our collection is very delicate and cannot be replaced. We ask that you touch only the things your tour guide allows.

Q: Can I bring my baby’s stroller on the tour?
A: We ask that you do not bring strollers into the building.

Q: Can I feed the baby on the tour?
A: We ask that you do not bring any food or drinks inside the home. However, when a baby needs to be fed, we can provide a place for you and your child.

Q: Is there a gift shop?
A: Yes, we generally end the tour there so you can pick up free information about the area and other historic sites, or purchase books and other items.

Q: Can I purchase food and drinks at the site?
A: No, but you are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and eat on the grounds.

Q: Where do I park?
A: There is street parking in front of the Magoffin Home State Historic Site and across the street.

Q: Can I pay with a credit card?
A: Yes, we accept Mastercard, Visa and Discover.

Q: Can I take photographs inside?
A: Yes, but you may not use a flash.

Q: Can I use a video camera and film the tour?
A: You may do this with the permission of your tour guide.

Q: I am a student. Can I take notes during the tour?
A: Of course. We just ask that you bring a pencil and your own paper.

Q: Can we smoke outside while we wait for our tour to begin?
A: Yes, we have a designated area outside for smoking.

Q: Do you rent your facility?
